Ahmed Alkaliby, M.D., Ph.D.

Getting to Know Dr. Alkaliby

Ahmed Alkaliby, M.D, Ph.D.,is an ophthalmologist specialized in medical and surgical management of vitreoretinal diseases including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion and retinal detachment. He has special interests in pediatric and adult vitreoretinal trauma, complex retinal detachment, ocular oncology, uveitis, and macular disease. A highly accomplished surgeon and scholar, Dr. Alkaliby has authored a number of books and book chapters on retinal surgery and other vitreoretinal topics. He has also served as ophthalmology journal peer reviewer and book reviewer. Dr. Alkaliby has lectured as a visiting professor at a number of national and international universities and has made numerous presentations to his peers at ophthalmological meetings and conventions.

Dr. Alkaliby is involved in many clinical trials including stem cell therapy for retinitis pigmentosa and degenerative retinal conditions. In addition, he has ongoing research including macular degeneration, machine learning, and artificial intelligence in retinal imaging.

Dr. Alkaliby has received numerous honors and awards and has served on medical mission trips in Africa. He continues to serve on the Medical Committee of Resala Charity Organization which provides families with medical care. In his free time, Dr. Alkaliby enjoys cooking, tennis, surgical instrument design, and 3D printing.
